Watermelon is delicious and health building fruit. Water content of this fruit is approx 92%. It is valuable on account of the large amount of easily assimilable sugar found in its juice. Total food value is in the juice, which is rich in Vitamins A., B6 and C. Guards against high BP.
Muskmelon fruit is diuretic, nutrient, laxative and 90% water. It is therefore used in scanty urination due to sodium retention, constipation, stones and gravel in kidney and bladder. Rich in Vitamin A. Provides about 103.2% of the daily value for vitamin A and beta-carotene and important nutrient for a healthy vision. It should be eaten with honey or salt and pepper. It strengthens heart and increases longevity. Seeds are used to dissolve excessive uric acid.
lychee is a very delicious fruit. May-June is the season for Litchi. It is a subtropical fruit and cooling, demulcent and aphrodisiac. Thirst quencher and good if taken during fevers.
Grapes contain more than 80% of water content. Both red and black grapes contain powerful antioxidants and resveratrol, which helps to prevent both the narrowing and hardening of the arteries thus it is considered to be a good addition to the diet of cardiac patients. However, they have a very high sugar content thus should be consumed in limitation by the people looking out for weight loss.
Plums and Peaches are found in abundance on the starting of summer. You can eat them in raw form. The edible part of plums is very juicy and delicious. Jamun or Jambul is another very tasty summer fruit available in India during the summer months. It is a deep purple colored fruit, oval in shape. It is a blend of sweet, mildly sour and sharp flavor and has a tendency to color the tongue purple. Black plum has lots of medicinal value. It is very good for lowering cholesterol and it is also a boon for patients of diabetes and its fruit and seed have a cooling effect. It has anti bacterial property which is beneficial for teeth and gums.
Mango is a fruit native to India and is well know as the king of the fruit family. It is highly rich in vitamin C and A. The ripened mango tones the heart, betters complexion, motivates hunger, betters vision, and is beneficial in liver disorders, loss of weight and other physical disturbances.
Some facts to keep in mind while eating fruits:
- Adding black salt to fresh fruit slices and also to fresh juice increases the taste of fruit. Black salt help in digestion as well.
- Avoid exposing fruits to sun. Before eating fruit refrigerate it.
- Pre cut fruits are harmful for health. Fresh cut fruits are full of minerals and vitamins.
